Nuku’alofa, Tonga – The Supreme Court of Tonga announced on 5 February the appointment of Nicholas Cooper by His Majesty King Tupou VI in Privy Council as Justice of the Supreme Court of Tonga.
Judge Cooper will be sworn in by Chief Justice Michael Whitten QC at Nuku’alofa Supreme Court on the 1st of March.
Mr Cooper is an experienced prosecutor from the United Kingdom.
He also specializes in financial crime; drug importation; large scale Class A drug supply by criminal gangs; and corruption in public officials.
Nicholas Cooper replaces Justice Cato, who moved back to New Zealand last year.
Due to high volume of court cases, Judge Langi and Judge Tupou served as Acting Judges of the Supreme Court of Tonga.
Judge Cooper will preside as judge in Tonga’s Supreme Court for the next 4 years.
