Nuku’alofa, Tonga – Police arrested a couple from their residence at Sopu on Thursday, 15 October2020, for possession of illict drugs.
Police statement states the two accused, a 37-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were arrested with 22.70 grams of cannabis, 31 packs of methamphetamine ready for distribution (10.66 grams) and drug utensils.
They are charged accordingly with possession of illicit drugs and to appear at the Magistrate Court at a later date.
Earlier in the same week, The Drug Enforcement Taskforce have arrested and charged five people with possession of illicit drugs between the 9th October and the 14th October 2020 from four different locations in Tongatapu, in an ongoing operation targeting drug dealers and suppliers.
Police also seized 1.37 grams of methamphetamine, 24.74 grams of cannabis and drug utensils during these arrests.
The five accused, four men and one woman between the aged of 20 to 46 will appear at the Magistrate Court at later date.
