Tonga Police Drug Taskforce seized meth and cannabis in 14 arrests across Tonga

Nuku’alofa, Tonga – The Police Drug Taskforce have arrested 14 male suspects, ages 17 to 41, for illicit drugs, in eight different locations across Tonga between Friday 15th, May to Wednesday, 20th of May.

According to Acting Deputy Commissioner, Tevita Vailea, the police seized 4.93 grams of  Methamphetamine (meth), 33.15 grams of cannabis, and drug utensils during the arrests.

Five of the men are from Halaleva, 4 from Tofoa, 2 from Kolomotu’a, 1 from Veitongo, Matahau, and Pahu.

All accused persons involved have been charged accordingly with unlawful possession of illicit drugs, and to appear at the Magistrate court, reads the statement by Tonga Police.

“Police will continue to work closely with the community to prevent the harm illicit drugs cause and the ongoing criminal activity associated with their use,” says Acting Deputy Commissioner, Vailea.
