Tongan Seniors in Seattle enjoy healthy meals and free resources

Volunteers preparing meals for the seniors of First Tongan Senior Nutritious Meal Program

A senior program in Seattle, First Tongan Senior Nutrional Progam, steps up help during Covid -19

I have been impressed by the level of commitment and assistance provided by the First Tongan Senior Nutritional Program of Seattle to the Tongan seniors in the community. They offer nutritious weekly meal service and important social services to Tongan seniors.

FTSNP’s mission is to provide a safe and happy place for seniors to come together for companionship, meals, physical exercise, culturally sensitive activities, and have access to resources. They serve all pacific island seniors in the local county, who are 60 years and older through their weekly program.

Pastor Mausia Folau oversees the program, while volunteer Sina Packer coordinates the weekly events.

Tongan seniors gather every Wednesday from 9am – 1pm at the First Tongan Methodist Church in West Seattle for all the fun, socials, and good food.

Recently, the program distributed $400 food vouchers to the seniors. And, even face masks were part of their distribution.

This program is funded by various organization in Seattle such as Sound Generations, City of Seattle, Foodlife Lines and Millionaires Club.

This generous initiative is helping many Tongan seniors feel connected to their community, and have access to important social services that are essential in times of economic uncertainty and wide-spread health risks of the pandemic.
